“Every year it is thrilling to see so many creative minds dream up such a variety of mysteries and spooky tales for the Phantom Wine contest,” said Jody Bogle, Vice President of Consumer Relations. “We look forward to reading this year’s entries and potentially seeing the winner come to life on the big screen.”
Flora’s Place was named as the 2020 winner and the film debuted at the Austin Film Festival in 2021. You can watch the entire 17-minute film here.
The Phantom story originates in Scotland as an apparition known as the “Bogle” that once stalked the hillsides near Glasgow. As ancestors of the Bogle family made their way to California, it is believed the Phantom followed. Accounts by employees throughout the years reveal the Phantom may still watch over the vineyards, ensuring the family remains true to its craft.
The Phantom wines pay homage to sightings of apparitions at the Clarksburg winery, and now the brand is extending the experience to fans to see who can come up with a compelling, original ghost story.
Writers 21 years of age and older are invited to submit their short stories (max 2,500 words) to PhantomGhostStories.com before the deadline on October 31st, 2022. The winning story will be announced by November 30, 2022.
