Monterey Wine Company announces new Winemaker

Monterey Wine Company is a custom wine production facility located in California Central Coast community of King City. Travis Proctor and his family have been considering relocating to the Monterey County area where Travis is originally from. They found their opportunity through Benchmark Consulting, the world’s leading search firm dedicated to serving the wine community.  “At this point in our business plan, we have reached a plateau requiring a winemaker with different skill sets, predominantly higher production and the consistency of making world class wine,” says Shannon Valladarez, Monterey Wine Company’s president, “Travis has that in his tool belt. He also brings experience in other areas that we have been lacking which we anticipate will elevate all aspects of what we currently do at Monterey Wine Company.  We are excited to have him as part of team.” 

Prior to taking the job as winemaker at Monterey Wine Company, Travis began his career as a cellar supervisor at Tolosa Winery. Four years later, he began working as the Production Manager at Tandem Winery. He then spent 3 years at Mazzocco as the Assistant Winemaker. When a Production Manager opportunity arose at the Terravant Wine Company Proctor took the position at the 300,000-case facility and over 35 individual clients. A few years later, another opportunity arose for Travis. As the Director of Winemaking and Production Operations for Terravant he directed a team that produced over 300,000 SKU’s and oversaw Viticulture QC for 1,500 tons of contracted fruit. After 17 years of winemaking under his belt in the Central Coast, Travis and his family moved to Oregon to Direct Winemaking operations for two distinct wine producers, Wine by Joe Dobbes and Dobbes Family Estate. For the past 5 years he oversaw the winemaking, under one roof, for one large production and one luxury custom crush facility. 

When asked about his decision to return to the Central Coast, Travis Proctor responded, “The chance to be near to family & friends is very dear to us. After hearing Shannon’s vision of the winery, the thought of producing world class wines and taking Monterey Wine Company to the next level is exciting.”


Located two hours from Santa Clara, Santa Barbara and Kern Counties, our custom crush program comes from all directions, while focusing on our backyard appellations in the Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties. Monterey Wine Company provides a full spectrum of services, from grape sourcing to specialty crush processing through aging, blending, and bottling.
