In just one month Papapietro Perry Winery raised thousands of dollars for the Redwood Empire Food Bank by donating $2 for every bottle of wine sold directly from the winery. A grand total of $6,000 was raised by the committed winery team at the small, family-owned Dry Creek Valley winery.
Founded in Sonoma County more than two decades ago by couples Bruce and Renae Perry and Ben and Yolanda Papapietro, the impact of the Coronavirus on locals, as well as their own staff, is very difficult and real. In addition to taking care of their staff, the owners met with their team to figure out how they could help nearby communities as well as revise the winery experience during this time.
“It has been upsetting to witness health and economic challenges locally and across the country,” said Renae Perry CEO and co-owner of Papapietro Perry Winery, “In addition to the hospitality industry in Sonoma County, our winery has developed deep relationships with both wine club members as well as restaurateurs, sommeliers and wine retailers across the United States. In the best of times, Papapietro Perry is known for food and wine experiences. We felt a calling to make sure that our neighbors are being fed.”
To make the fundraising program work, and keep as many staff members as possible employed when the Papapietro Perry Tasting Room had to close, the team quickly pivoted at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Through personal one-on-one outreach, online storytelling including family members and grape growers, private virtual tastings live from the winery tasting room, curbside pickup at the winery, $5 flat rate shipping and complimentary touchless delivery in Sonoma County, we have revised the experience at the winery, which can be enjoyed no matter where you are,” explained Perry.
Papapietro Perry Winery is a boutique, family-owned winery located in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, which has specialized in making remarkable, classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, as well as a small selection of other varietals from Sonoma such as Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Rosé. The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California, from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County annually. Numbers of people in need have naturally risen due to the COVID-19 outbreak. REFB has therefore added periodic, temporary drive-through food distribution outposts in Healdsburg, Santa Rosa and Petaluma.
Papapietro Perry Winery will be open for socially-distant wine tastings beginning Saturday, May 30 by appointment only. Weekly video chats are available live and archived on Facebook and YouTube.
